Q. What are Woodhouse Perimeter Gesso Pre-coated Timber Mouldings? A. Woodhouse Perimeter is the range of Pre-Coated Finger Jointed Mouldings from the Woodhouse Timber Company. The Perimeter range is a internal mouldings that are suitable to a wide range of applications inside the home. Manufactured from real wood fibre, the range is ideally suited to all fixout applications for the trade and presents a DIY opportunity for all renovators. Use around windows, walls, floors and doors…Woodhouse Perimeter defines the boundaries of all building projects.
Q. What is the Gesso Coating? A. Gesso is a combination of water, paint and adhesive and forms a solid coating on the surface of the moulding. Being water based, excessive exposure to water may cause some breakdown in the coating so it is best to keep all mouldings dry prior to installation. Any movement in the coating can be corrected with wood filler and primer prior to final finishing.

Q. Where can I use the Perimeter range? A. Use Perimeter mouldings in similar situations to other fit-out mouldings. Due to the natural durability of the wood fibre, Perimeter is suitable for use in wet areas but ensure that all surfaces are primed and sealed against moisture.
Q. What is Perimeter made from? A. Perimeter is made from solid wood fibre and as such there are less issues with dust when working with the Perimeter range. Renewable, legally managed forests are used as the source of all wood fibre used in the manufacturing process.

Q. What Guidelines should I follow when working with and installing Woodhouse Perimeter Mouldings? A. Ensure that all Perimeter Mouldings are kept dry on site prior to installation. Real wood fibre is used in the manufacture of the Perimeter range and it is advised to follow standard practices whilst handling timber and wear gloves, goggles and dust masks as required. Ensure that a sharp carbide tipped drop saw is used for cutting all Perimeter mouldings especially angles and the pressure of all finishing guns is set at a maximum of 120PSI (less if required) when fixing.
Remember that Woodhouse Perimeter Mouldings are made from a low density species and care needs to be observed when handling to prevent any excessive damage to the coating or profile.
Q. What are the best fixing methods? A. Use either 15 or 16 gauge finishing brads with pneumatic fixing but monitor the pressure to prevent splitting of profiles. For hammer driven fixing, use similar gauge bright steel nails and pre-drill as required depending on application. In smaller profiles, exercise caution during fixing regardless of method.

Q. How do I best finish Perimeter Mouldings once installed? A. Fill all nail holes, marks in the surface or damaged areas with a quality wood filler. Sand to an even finish with a fine grit paper (320/360) and then coat with a quality acrylic (water based) or enamel (oil based) paint. In most instances a single coat either by brush or spray (2 wet on wet coats) will yield a high quality finish. If a better result is necessary, apply further coats until a desired finish is achieved. Allow sufficient drying time between coats and follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions.
